History Of Seventh-Day Adventist Church Wiamoase New Town

The history of Wiamoase New Town SDA Church is preserved with the hope of inspiring both present and future generations of the congregation.

Seventh-day Adventist church Wiamoase New Town was established in 1994 under the leadership of Pastor Stephen Antwi Boasiako, the then District Pastor, through the establishment of Sabbath School branches within the Wiamoase area.

Special appreciation goes to Op. R.K. Twumasi and his wife, Grace Pomaa I, who generously offered their home at Tanoso as the meeting place for the newly established Sabbath School branch. Later, approval was granted for the two branches—Tanoso Branch, held at the residence of Op. R.K. Twumasi, and New Behenase Branch, held at the residence of Op. Isaac Osei to hold their mid-week prayer services together at Tanoso, specifically at Op. R.K. Twumasi’s residence.

The maiden mid-week prayer service was held on 9th May 1994 and was led by Elder Gyasi Afum Boakye. This arrangement continued for two months before Sabbath Divine Services officially began at the same venue under the leadership of Elder Ben Acheampong, with approval from the Church Board on 31st July 1994.

As time passed, church membership steadily increased, creating the need for a permanent place of worship. The following individuals willingly offered plots of land for the church to purchase for the construction of the church building:

* Master Yaw Boamah Boansi
* Madam Afia Ako (Faustina Yamoah)
* Op. I.K. Donkor
* Op. Isaac Osei

Construction work began on Sunday, 7th August 1994. By God’s grace, the project progressed smoothly. As stated in Psalm 127:1, “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” The Central Church at Wiamoase also provided strong financial and spiritual support throughout the project.   The church building was roofed with iron sheets donated by Elder McNeilus through Pastor P.A. Mensah, President of the Central Ghana Conference (CGC), together with proceeds from the church’s annual harvest.

After the roofing, the maiden sundown service was held on Friday, 8th August 1995 and was led by Mr. Michael Ankamah.   The first Divine Service in the new church building was held on 9th August 1995 and was officiated by Pastor A.B.A. Prempeh of the North Ghana Mission and District Pastor of Wa in the Upper West Region.
